New Years at the Beach

Lockets

I have developed a love for lockets! Preferably antique. I have found myself lately wearing 2 or 3 at once but in different styles so its not overload!

Home for the Holidays

I am headed home to Mobile for Christmas, a short little trip but worth the drive to be with family and friends!!

Layers of Rhinestones

I love vintage rhinestone necklaces, the nostalgic glamour is so beautiful! Today I paired a graphic T and a "grandpa" sweater with layers of necklaces. They added back a softer touch and a little sparkle for Friday work look.

Wednesday Night Dinner

Currently one of my FAVORITE salads hails from Bricktops. The Palm Beach salad is an artfully layered mix of jumbo lump crab meat, avocado, tomatoes, shrimp and egg garnished with arugela and cherry tomatoes.

And this would be a relatively healthy meal until you finish it off with a cookie skillet. Thats right a cookie baked to perfection in a skillet and topped with vanilla ice cream with drizzled carmel. UNREAL!

Good Morning...diet coke

I am not a coffee drinker, in fact aside form coffee flavored ice cream I don't really like it. So this leaves me in need of a good source of caffeine in the AM. Enter my "giant 32oz" diet coke. I am a pretty routine-driven person so I really like to start my day with this bubbly source of energy.

Gift Ideas: Books

I rarely go into a book store and purchase a book, which is a sad thing to have to say. So this year I decided to give books as Christmas Gifts. Books that will inspire or entertain or inform and are hopefully something people would love but just don't have time to pick up for themselves! And if all else fails they can be an added piece of color or texture to a coffee table...

Holiday Birthday Party

Friday night was my roommates party, I decided on cupcakes and champagne. I decorated the table with silver ornaments and mirrors and handmade snowflakes. I garnished the champagne glasses (well if I am being honest plastic cups) with bright red cranberries. I also adorned the entrance into the dining room with varying silver ball ornaments.

Holiday Cupcakes

I recently got a piping bag with metal tips for icing cookies and cupcakes etc so I was SUPER excited to break it out last night to ice cupcakes for a birthday party tonight (I will post pics Monday of the party). I used buttercream frosting and added a few drops of blue food coloring for a delicate mint green color. Swirling on the frosting definitely took practice but I was really happy with the finished piece. I topped them off with blue and white snowflake sprinkles.

Girls Night

Since its my roommate's birthday week and a good friend just moved into a new apt we decided a girls night was in order! Nothing fancy just wine, cheese, dip and cookie cake.

Fuchsia Lipstick

This may be the greatest lipstick of all time! My best friend recently introduced us and I have to say its love! its over the top bright but somehow not offensive! I always get complements and questions about the color. It definitely brightens up my typically nuetral or all black look.

SEC Championship Attire

I don't typically dress in "Auburn" themed or even colored clothes but for this game I decided to take a stab at it. I also just wanted an excuse to wear my new Topshop skirt from my recent trip to New York. Paired with a white blouse, tights and combat boots I at least got the navy right....

Outdoor Surprise Party

Friday Night was a good friend's 30th birthday at JCT Kitchen, the top bar (outside) was rented out for us to celebrate. So this event begged the question...what do you wear to an outdoor party in December? And the answer is a little black dress and a great winter coat. I also threw on my new teal feather earrings for a little color.

Christmas Tree Decorating

I LOVE decorating for Christmas!! Now that I am in a house there are even more possibilities...

Last night we picked out our tree and got her all dressed! The smell this morning in the house amazing! I like all white lights and silver and gold ornaments. I have started (mostly by accident) adding little birds to the tree as well.

New Planner

As nerdy as this may sound I get super excited when its time to get a new planner for the next year! All the possibilities and organization housed in one little purse-sized book! I must have one I can write in, something about handwriting events and crossing things out is really important.

Rainy Day

Sometimes a rainy day is the best, however when you have tons of driving and running around to do not so much. Hopefully tomorrow we will finally see some sunshine...

Buttons Make the Difference

While I was at home for Thanksgiving I was looking through our extra closets and stumbled upon a great navy coat from my childhood. I tried it on an it fit, with adorable cropped length sleeves, and amazing detail in the back. The buttons however were really dated. So my sweet mom and I decided to give this little coat a makeover with new buttons. I love the look of wooden buttons so for $5 in buttons I have a great new coat!

Winter White Nails

Lately I have been turning toward sparkling nail, either glitter or opalescent. I wanted to wear a neutral shade so white jumped to mind. I love the shine of this color and with a few coats of clear topcoat it looks as good as a manicure, well almost...

Instagram

I just returned from 5 amazing days in NY with my best friend who recently moved there, and we are now completely obsessed with this app. Its sort of like twitter but better, you send pics of where you are or what your doing and it links to facebook, twitter, tunblr etc. You can apply filters to the images you take and have friends follow you.

Fireside

Tonight my roommates, neighbors and I are having a little bonfire. I love when the weather is cool enough to enjoy sitting by a fire. Add a wool sweater and s'mores to the mix and it should be a great Wednesday night!

New Girl Talk

I would never pretend to be musically trendsetting but I do like music, so I was super excited when the new Girl Talk album was released today! This only fuels my excitement for the concert in January!

Todays Look: Scarf

I see girls wear little silk scarves all the time and never thought I could pull it off without looking ridiculous. This morning I decided to throw one on (maybe its the allergy medicine...) but I was pretty happy with the finished look. I also find myself wearing more and more color-today is a great example.

Hanson

Last night completed my childhood. I was front row at a Hanson concert. Right in front of my first love...Taylor. Amazing time!!

Studded Pumps

I was looking at pics on teh set of my favorite show -Gossip Girl -and saw Blake Livey's shoes and fell in love. I had seen them in Sex and the City pics too and just saw them as a dream, as they are WAY to pricey for me. Then low and behold I found these:

$20 later I have nearly the same shoe! The gold studs and clear sides will be amazing with tights this season!!

Earring Remix

My sweet grandmother gave me some of her costume jewelry recently, which I have been completely obsessed with. However some of the earrings were missing their mate. I knew I could find a great use for them so I took them anyway, so I decided to clip one on a pair of bead bracelets. I was pretty happy with the turnout, it added a little charm and sparkle to the dull wood finish giving them an overal chic look.

Polished

Lately when I look for new nail polishes I seem to gravitate toward glitter, something about the texture and sparkle seems to always grab my eye. And as not to look like I am in second grade I think layering colors gives a more sophisticated look! Pale purple with a pink glitter top coat r like they are currently, burgundy with a blue and purple polka dot shimmery top coat.

Date Night

Tonight is date night with my roommate, it should be really glamorous - cleaning, laundry... We plan to reward our hard work with sushi followed by a frosty and we swill be snoozing by midnight!

Salsa Dancing

Tonight my roommates and I went to Havana for Salsa dancing lessons. I really need to make more of an effort to attend things like this. We learned basic steps and had an amazing time.

Todays Look: Socks & Sandals

It was particularly cold when I took Henry out this morning so I decided to keep sweat pants on. I chose a silk shell and white blazer for work. I added polka dot socks and my favorite purple alligator sandals.

Bedside Table

I snagged a great old table from my Grandmother, it was poorly painted white but the aged look of it really spoke to me. I found an inexpensive lamp and added a few antiques from my Mom and I think I can almost say my room is complete!

Animal Print

I was not very creative this year - Little Red Riding Hood - so I channeled all my creativity into my roommates costume. He decided on Pinocchio and I got a call that he had nothing to wear yesterday, so at lunch I ran to Walmart and Target. And in only 2 stores I created this:

Mixed Patterns

Today I decided to mix stripes and florals and I chose neutral shoes so I didn't look like a hot mess. I was pretty happy with the outcome.

Fork and Screen

I may be the last person to experience this but Fork and Screen is the best way to see a movie! A waitress brings dinner and drinks while you watch in a movie in a relaxed- seating environment. Highly recommend this!

Pre-Halloween Decorating

I was a bit of a minimalist when it came to Halloween decorations this year, just a few simple pumpkins. But my roommates and I are hosting a frat-style halloween party Friday night that requires serious decoration. These include tarp wrapped around the house, removal of furniture and lights. I will post pics after....

Black Watch

I usually wear a gold watch of my dad's but I have been looking for a black watch. Something oversized and didn't want to buy the Michael Kors version I see everywhere. So for the astounding prince of $12 I found one at Walmart. When I find little gems like this it makes the extremely long line I was standing in totally worth it!

Clip Earrings

Last time I visited home we spent the afternoon at my Grandmother's house. She is moving to Denver so we came to help her clean out her house. I never suspected I would hit the jackpot of vintage costume clip earrings! Each pair is so beautiful and special. I can't wait to start working them into my accessories!

Bulletin Boards

I always notice in pictures of peoples work space a bulletin board of inspiration. I decided I should get one as wel.. Its a great place to keep magazine cut outs, invites, inspiration in any form. And it adds color and interest to a very bare spot on my wall!

Brownie Pops

Now that I live in a house I feel the need to cook (or bake really) much more often. Something about baking is calming to the soul. With Halloween approaching I wanted to try baking brownie pops. I made the brownies first in little mini muffin tins. After they cooled I melted orange and white baking chocolate. I flipped over the brownies and sliced off the top so they had a flat bottom and coated with the chocolate. While the chocolate was hardening I placed in the white paper sticks. After an hour the chocolate was cool and solid again so i could draw ghost eyes and pumpkin leaves.

Tapered Sweatpants

I definitely have better days at work if I am comfortable in what I have on, which is why finding work appropriate sweat pants was so exciting. They have great lines and a cropped tapered leg. I wore them with a white T and black pumps and a boyfriend blazer.

Todays Look: Game Day

I guess it wasn't actually today but Saturday's. We went to Park's Edge to enjoy bottomless mimosas and headed to Diesel to watch the Auburn game and I wanted a casual, loose fitting look. I paired a cropped shirt most wear to workout with boyfriend jeans and heels(because I can never bring myself to wear flats).

Rent the Runway

I would love to be able to drop by Barneys or Neimans and just pick up a fantastic dress but I would then need to wake up and realize I don't exactly have a budget for such purchases. That being said a friend recently introduced me to Rent the Runway. Its a great member's only site that lets you borrow clothes for four days and return them after for a fraction of the retail cost!

Clothes on Loan

I think most girls have an article or two in their closet that actually belongs to a friend. Example, chocolate fur vest. My best friend(who I constantly admire) moved to Argentina for a year leaving me to "babysit" some of her favorite pieces. This vest was one of the pieces.

Parka

I am definitely a "know what I want" kind of shopper. I recently saw an ad for Old Navy that featured parkas. So I knew exactly what I wanted when I ran into Old Navy, no looking around, just in and out.

Kat's Wedding

Over the weekend I went to my sweet cousin's wedding. I wish I could spend more time with my family and weddings are the best opportunity for this! Since it was still really warm at home I decided on a black tube top and a knee length navy skirt. I have been saving this skirt for just the right occasion and was all to eager to put it on.

I welcomed my 29th year by taking the day off work to completely indulge in doing nothing! I had lunch with my roommate and a friend, got a mani/pedi and finished the day with drink at JCT Kitchen.

Drinks at the Palomar

Tonight my three roommates and I are heading to the Palomar Hotel for drinks on the rooftop. I jumped at the chance to wear more festive clothes, namely my sequin skirt. I paired it with a white t with a lace cutout back and black satin blazer. The weather is supposed to be amazing!

Head Wraps

I always admire head wraps, they always add a splash of color or interest to a look. I decided to try it out today with a maxi dress, leather jacket and combat boots. This transitioned into night since we had people over for a bonfire cookout.

Old School Skirt

For whatever reason I have a few articles of clothing from high school that sneak their way into my wardrobe. One of which is a little black skirt. It is such a little gem. The length and material work for casual or formal looks and it always saves the day when I over sleep and didn't plan my look the night before!

Leather Shorts

I have been on the lookout for a great pair of leather shorts. Something inexpensive preferably and I stumbled upon a great pair at Forever 21. Paired with a bright blue silk shirt and heels my look for Barbie birthday was complete.

Birthday Month

Its officially here!!! I LOVE my birthday, everything about it, I literally would celebrate it all month but I will not subject my friends to that. Tonight is my party in Barbie theme. I have loved Barbie since I can remember, I have had every imaginable Barbie and accessory. My roommate has planned the most fabulous party. Can't wait!!

Denim

Maybe its the 80's child in me but lately I have found myself purchasing more denim. I love this shirt dress. Its just long enough for work and really looks great with a wide belt. The short sleeves will lend to layering when it finally get cold here.

Phantogram

I am not a big concert-goer but I do enjoy a good show. I went to Phantogram tonight with friends and had the best time. The venue was super quaint (and we really only got in with the persuasion of my roommate) which really added to the experience.

Capes

Layering

I am not great at layering but its a look that I strive to perfect! My attempt today was a white blouse and a short sleeved sweater, paired with a slim black skirt and Mary Janes. The texture in the shirt is amazing!

Todays Look: After Work Birthday Party

Tonight I am attending a friends birthday party at a little Irish pub, this environment does not call for sequins or silk so I went for completely casual. I wore an over-sized white blouse cream silk shorts with lace trim and my combat boots.

Fall

Today is the first official day of fall. I love the fall, crisp cool air warm clothes no more 90 degree weather, football season and my birthday!

Tucker

I can't say enough how excited I get when Target releases a new Designer line. Tucker was particularly exciting because it was an affordable way to introduce more pattern to my typically solid wardrobe.I LOVE the florals and polka dots in warm fall colors.

How To: Jello Shots

I would like to say I have moved past college Past thinks like jello shots but lets get real, I have not. Tomorrow we are heading to the Auburn game vis chartered bus and I was asked to assist in the creation of 300 jello shots. To which I was happy to help! Until I realized I had no clue how to actually make them. A few failed attempts later I perfected the mix of 1 cup water, 1 cup vodka and 1 box of jello.

Combat Boots

I usually never wear flats, but this season I really wanted to get som slouchy combat boots, I looked at tons and no one pair really jumped out at me until I finally stumbled upon these!

Avatar

I will admit I was pretty anti-Avatar when it first came out. But one of my roommates is quite the promoter and when it was re-released I pretty much had no choice-that and the promise of popcorn(add butter) with m&ms poured in. I was super surprised at how much I really liked the movie! And it was the first movie I have seen in 3D which was again awesome! It is by far the most visually beautiful movies I have ever seen! I even found myself crying!

Boyfriend Jeans

I love my store-bought boyfriend jeans! I would much prefer the real thing, not necessarily "boyfriend" but jeans that are a boys. I live with two guy roommates now so I should probably steal some. I paired them with my fav oversized vintage blue sweater and mary janes.

Marc Jacobs

So tonight I watched the fall show - Amazing! Such an incredible talent! And since I can't be in NY watching it live(while eating dinner at Whole Foods) was the next best thing http://live.marcjacobs.com/high/

Mary Janes

I love love love mary janes, unfortunately the pair I love are Miu Miu and slightly out of the budget. So when I found these on Forever 21's website I freaked out! They are very similar and look amazing on, however when I went to buy them - SOLD OUT. Well that was no match for me I kept checking back and no luck. Until this weekend I was browsing the store and low and behold there they were just waiting for me to take them home!

Game Day

Today was the first game of this football season so we picked a restaurant with a deck outside to enjoy the amazing weather. I am super excited about the next few Saturdays of this!!!

Clogs

I found a pair of clogs by Isaac Mizrahi at Target in college, and something told me to hang onto them. So now that this season is full of clogs I felt now was the time for a resurface.

How to: Curtains

Nothing finishes a room like curtains, they are the final touch of style and color to complete a room. So when I moved in my new house I really wanted curtains in the living room. I ran into a challenge with the long bay window in the front. So I decided with a little help from my sweet dad I could make the curtain rod. We used a 1.5" wood dowel and spray painted it glossy black. After a few coats and a few hours of drying time, we drilled holes in each end and screwed in finials that came already painted black. I bought 2" chrome curtain rings to finish soft cream curtains. We repeated the process for the other window and I was super excited with the turnout!

Pure Barre

Today I went to my first Pure Barre class. My roommate Ashley is the manager and has been dying to get me and my other two guy roommates to take a class. So Jeff and I headed to class, he not knowing he would be the only guy, is now proud to tell all that he is the only guy in GA to have taken class so far. It was an amazing workout and a great time. Since Ash and I are unashamed massive Justin Bieber fans, the mix during the workout could not have been better! This may be the start regularly working out....

High Waisted Skirts

I find high-waisted skirts to be the most flattering, and they work both casual and formal. Below are some of my favorites!

Office Meeting

Today I have two meetings in the office which requires I get out of bed in time to actually blow dry and straighten my hair, which I would not usually do... It also requires a more professional business look so I pulled out my bright blue cropped pants from High School. Case in point why- you should always hold on to random pieces like this in case styles come back. I added a deep purple silk shell and and nude heels to complete the look.

Hamburger Perfection

Recently my good friend Kendal was lucky enough to encounter the most perfect and delicious hamburger on the planet from Cypress Street Bar. Its a hamburger housed between a glazed donut that has been lightly grilled. The combination of sweet and savory is unreal!!

Color

I usually stick to neutrals and black with the occasional pattern but today is one of those days that what I pieced together at 6:30am really came together! I wore an orange tube dress with a teal cardigan and brown leather jacket and finished the look with tan socks and strappy patten lather sandals. Something about liking what you have one really makes the day a little brighter!

Denim on Denim

This trend is usually reserved for Kelly Kaposwki but lately I find myself into it. I found a great snap closure shirt from Walmart ($10) and paired with grey skinny jeans I was surprised to find this look modern not 80s.

How To: Breakfast Casserole

I am headed to the Lake for the weekend and I was assigned "breakfast" as my contribution. I decided to try a recipe from my mom thats usually a big hit at brunch. The recipe is super simple:6 eggs,

Summer Booties

Usually boots are reserved for winter but booties allow for wear year round. These are some of my favorites!

Boot-Cut Jeans

I rarely pull out my old jeans, especially since I find myself only looking at skinny jeans these days but I decided to revive a pair of express editor pants in denim. I actually share these with my friend Christi dating back to sharing a house and closet with her in New York.

Studded Skirt

I found this black studded skirt at H&M in the sale section and thought one day I would find a use for it. Today was the day, since its fairly tight I paired it with a loose fitting silk blouse and white blazer. I finished the look with my nude sandals keeping a fairly neutral palette.

Reversible

I don't typically find reversible clothes, especially since I am not in children's clothes but sometimes it can be a great surprise. Case in point my racerback floral dress. The patterns are different enough to work as two dresses and styled differently, it could be undetectable.

Fedoras

I am a huge fan of hats, especially Saturday morning when you rush out of the house to brunch and there is no time for fix your hair. These are some of my favorites!

Denim Leggings

I have been searching for a great pair of super skinny jeans or denim leggings and the winner is: Old Navy. They come in a few colors so I now own black and grey. They are super comfortable and hit just at my ankle without being hemmed. These will absolutely become a staple in my fall/winter wardrobe and they come at a bargin, only $25.

Animal Rings

As I was grabbing some jewelry running out the door for work I realized...they are all animals. Apparently I love animal rings! I found these gems for a bargain at target and forever 21, none of them were more than $8!! They add that extra bit of interest to your hand and the rhinestones are perfect at night.
